Subtractive Reasoning

This InterventionPack domain is currently in development. It will focus on pupils’ understanding of subtraction as reduction, difference, comparison and missing-part reasoning.

What this pack will focus on

  • Subtraction as reduction
  • Subtraction as difference
  • Comparison structures
  • Missing-part reasoning
  • Misconceptions around subtraction as only “take away”

What will be included

  • Diagnostic assessment
  • Individual pupil reports
  • Class summary dashboard
  • Whole-school overview
  • Targeted intervention resources
  • Printable worksheets and teacher notes

Why this domain matters

Subtraction is one of the areas where pupils can appear secure while still holding fragile understanding. This pack will help teachers identify whether pupils understand reduction, difference, comparison and missing-part structures, rather than treating every subtraction problem as a simple “take away” procedure.

This domain is not yet available

Subtractive Reasoning is planned as a future InterventionPack domain. For now, the live diagnostic and intervention resources are available through the Multiplicative Thinking pack.
